Our Story
Every story begins somewhere, and for me, Arteana was born out of a deep love for Italy, for art, and for the timeless beauty of craftsmanship.
It is a story shaped by passion, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that what we create with intention has the power to inspire.
My journey has always been guided by a profound respect for craftsmanship—a respect instilled in me by the women I grew up with, whose hands brought life to beautiful creations.
Their patience, skill, and care left an indelible mark on me, shaping my understanding of what it means to create with purpose.
This passion led me to Florence, the cradle of Italian artistry, and later to New York, where I completed my studies in footwear design, fashion management, and sustainability.
Along the way, I was fortunate to work with incredible brands in the luxury and fashion industry. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the artistry behind every piece and strengthened my resolve to create something truly meaningful.
For my husband, Mikkel, and me, Arteana represents more than a brand—it is the culmination of a dream.
In our early 30s, Mikkel and I found ourselves at a crossroads. He had built his career in the tech industry, while I had spent years immersed in fashion.
Though our paths were different, we shared a vision: to dedicate the rest of our careers to creating something meaningful, something that mattered. We wanted to build a brand that celebrated artistry, craftsmanship, and the beauty of living with intention.
One of the defining moments of our journey came when we traveled to the island of Burano, near Venice, a place known for its centuries-old tradition of lace-making. There, we met with a small workshop specializing in the delicate and intricate technique of Merletto di Burano.
As we listened to the artisans speak about their craft—their struggles, their devotion, and the reality that so few hands remain to carry these traditions forward—we knew we couldn’t turn back.
It was in that moment that we made the decision to leave behind the careers we had built and devote ourselves fully to Arteana.
Arteana’s beginnings were filled with hope but the road ahead was not easy. Bringing our first collection to life meant searching for the right artisans and workshops who shared our commitment to craftsmanship.
We drove for days across Italy, meeting with countless workshops, learning their stories, and searching for someone who would take a chance on us.
Eventually, we found them—a workshop in Tuscany who believed in our vision. Their trust gave us the opportunity to produce our very first collection, and to this day, we continue to work together, bound by the same passion for artistry and excellence that first brought us together.
Then came the pandemic which for everyone was a test of resilience we never could have foreseen.
In the uncertainty of that time, it was the loyalty of our clients, the dedication of our artisans, and the strength of our partners that carried us through.
Arteana endured and those moments of challenge became lessons in gratitude and strengthened my commitment to creating something lasting and beautiful.
Today, Arteana has grown into a brand with clients and partners across the world, yet its soul remains deeply rooted in Italy.
Each piece we create reflects the passion and precision of the artisans who bring it to life. From intricate crochet to embroidered lace, every design is a celebration of heritage and innovation—a harmony of tradition and modern elegance.
I am endlessly inspired by the incredible people I am privileged to work with. Our artisans, our clients, and our partners. They remind me every day of why Mikkel and I began this journey and give me the strength to continue.
